FINALLY I figured out the reason I switched to Sprint. Actually, Sprint is a good service provider and WAY cheaper than the other big companies. Today I saw a PR about Sprint utilizing technology (that to my knowledge has been around longer than smartphones) to allow users to listen to actual FM signals on the phone. I believe its as simple as turning on the FM “radio” that is already built into the phone. But I can’t tell if this is the way they are doing it. They mention the NextRadio app and other apps that would allow people to listen to radio but they don’t mention that is ONLINE or using data to do it. They do mention using “Sprint’s Network” so I’m curious how this will differ. Not totally clear though. This will happen starting in 2013 over the next 3 years.
This All Access Article didn’t go into the technology of it but it does have positive comments from Execs who surprisingly are all happy about the move.
